BSc or National Diploma in Food Technology, Food Science, or related qualification. 1–5 Years' work experience in Product Development/Application with a focus on Alcoholic Beverage and/or Energy drink development. Willingness to taste alcoholic beverages. Description: An ingredient manufacturer in the food and beverage industry is seeking an Application/Product Developer to join their team. The purpose of the job is to develop new recipes for customer- and innovation projects, matching products, and further development of existing recipes. The Application/Product Developer will form part of a team in the Application Laboratory that has to meet project goals by developing commercially viable products, preparing application samples, recording information, and creating documentation accurately. The duties will include, but are not limited to, the preparation of application samples and performing analytical checks on development samples; selecting and sampling flavours for customer requirements; researching new ingredients; developing formulations, keeping costs and raw material sustainability in mind and liaising with QA, Sourcing, and Production departments; coordinating and keeping record of samples coming in and going out of the laboratory; liaising with suppliers regarding raw material documentation and samples; managing development projects and organizing of project information; formulation of new products, line extensions, or matches as per brief; sensory evaluation; compiling technical documentation and completing production handover; ensuring Good Laboratory Practice is maintained in the Application Laboratory and that the flavour library is organized and up to date; attending factory trials when requested, both in-house and on customer premises; creating and maintaining recipes in SAP; and collaborating with Technical Project Manager and Sales on all development projects. Key Requirements: BSc or National Diploma in Food Technology, Food Science, or related qualification and 1–5 years' work experience in a Product Development/Application position where the focus was on Alcoholic Beverage development and/or Energy drinks. South African Food Legislation knowledge is required, as is the tasting of a variety of Food and Beverage products, specifically Alcoholic products. SAP experience will be advantageous.
