We are a Private Company which own a number of establlished Spar / Superspar and Tops outlets in the Western Cape. We are expanding and have a need for enthusiastic people to support this growth, which includes a financial accountant position based at our Head Office in Blackheath, Cape Town The successful candidate will have an opportunity to grow with and grow individually within the organisation. The main function of this position is performing the financial accounting tasks which are required for the production of the monthly management accounts. In this regard the financial accountant will have the support of a junior accountant, creditors clerks, and store based administration managers. He/she will report to the group financial manager. 1. Processing of monthly journals (pay-roll, sales / cost of sales, depreciation, revenue and expense and general accruals, etc.) to finalise the monthly accounts. 2. Reconciliation of General Ledger clearing accounts, other General Ledger accounts, and resolution of outstandings, to ensure completeness and accuracy. 3.Produce the management accounts and perform the month end close process. 4.Maintanance of fixed asset registers (including accounting for additions and disposals) 5. Periodic insurance reviews and update of insurance values through direct communication with the companies' insurance brokers. 6.Submission of statutory returns to SARS, and any further detailed information/reconciliations related to those submissions that may be requested. 7.Produce the annual financial statements and prepare the necessary supporting working papers that may be required for the annual financial audits. 8.Attending to general financial administrative matters which includes communication with our service providers, (various Banks, Lessors, the Spar Group (Pty) Ltd Distribution Centre, and External Auditors). 1. Bcom accounting honours with 4 years post qualification experience. 2. Alternatively a CASA with 2 years post article experience. 3. Spar Retail Accounting experience would be a significant advantage. 4. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel. 5. Quick learner and efficient. 6. An approach which focuses on getting the work done correctly. 7. An ability to independently complete assigned tasks within identified time frames Market Related
