A fast-growing Hotels & Leisure Group is seeking the services of Hospitality Group Operations Director. The purpose of the job is to conceptualise and design a comprehensive end-to-end operations strategy and business plan for the Operations of Indalo Hotels & Leisure to ensure sustainability and profitability across South Africa. The role develops and drives forward long-term strategic planning strategies and policies within the portfolio, to facilitate the achievement of Indalo Hotels and Leisure's aims and objectives by ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of operational requirements. It furthermore has a strong business-development component. LOCATION: Jhb, CT, Kruger Park etc. JOB DETAILS Essential Strategic Management Keeps abreast with legislation, Acts, Bills, Regulations and amendments thereto, trends, theories and practices underlying Hospitality Operations-related systems data and processes Evaluates and comments on applicability of specific key performance indicators and measures against outcomes detailed in the Division's business and strategic plans Participates in and contributes to the development and implementation of the overall Indalo Hotels & Leisure Group business plan Presents a conceptual framework of current and future interventions necessary to achieve acceptable levels and standards of service delivery Provides strategic vision and sets the direction for the Division Complies with performance management requirements for Division Oversees compliance with occupational health and safety legislation and plans Sets the long-term strategy and objectives for the Operations Division, taking into account economic, social and international variables Facilitates and assists Managers in the identification, analysis and resolution of strategic issues within the Division Provides inputs into the strategic planning processes to promote consistency and alignment with corporate goals and objectives of Indalo Hotels & Leisure Group Monitors and manages the execution of business plans and action steps set out in the business plan Assesses new or altered needs, challenges and opportunities and facilitates the incorporation thereof into existing policy documents, where necessary Identifies, formulates and oversees the development of programs, projects and operational guidelines Business Development Researches and identifies potential bid and tender opportunities in line with Indalo Hotels & Leisure's strategic priorities Identifies and obtains approvals for new projects Identifies and develops new relationships for new business opportunities Delivers presentations to potential clients and stakeholders on Indalo Hotels & Leisure and its product offerings Shares insights, legislation updates and hospitality management knowledge with potential Clients to guide business proposals and applications Gathers competitor insights on bid submissions Submits reports on prospective projects Provides input into annual budgets Advises the CEO on hospitality management trends and developments in order to inform Indalo Hotels & Leisure's decision-making Review the monthly and annual target segments for growth opportunities in the public and private sectors Creates and maintains a tender bid library of company information and literature to analyse performance, identify best practice and ensure that there is a point of reference to successful and non-successful tenders Engages with relevant bid and tender portals across all sectors, both public and private, to ensure maximum representation Attends briefings and clarification sessions in order to further understand requirements of the tender Conducts bid profiling, risk analysis and risk mitigation assessments with internal and external stakeholders in order to guide Senior Management on the decision on whether to participate in a bid Development and Oversight of the Operations Plan and Operating Model Analyses the Indalo Hotels & Leisure Group strategy and business plan to determine the relevant deliverables for the Operations Division Develops the Operations business plan, measure and targets with an emphasis on: Operational efficiency Property Management Operations Business Development Supply Chain Management Analyses benchmarks for similar environments to determine performance indicators for Departments within Operations Monitors and measures performance consistently according to the metrics agreed upon in the service level agreements (SLA's or PPP's). Initiates pro-active and corrective actions as required within the allocated time frames Designs and oversees the operating framework for all Hotel & Leisure Operations. Defines policies, processes and procedures to support the achievement of strategic objectives and operational plans Identifies critical service and efficiency points to support and enhance rentals, leasing, hotel & Leisure management operations, supply chain management. Develops and recommends to Exco and Board the business plans, operational requirements, organisational structure, staffing and budgets that support operational programmes, strategies and operations Updates, amends and devises changes to the operating model as the business grows and develops Operational Management Develops and oversees the overall strategy and plan to support the most efficient and profitable acquisition Creates and oversees consistent operating models across hotel and leisure management operations to ensure the most effective and profitable operations Collaborates with stakeholders in the business to determine and forecast demands according to tourism peak seasons. Collaborates with relevant stakeholders to define pricing models and approaches to meet seasonal demand Engages with key volume suppliers and spearheads pricing and supply negotiations Collaborates with relevant internal stakeholders to set targets and objectives to ensure profitability, sustainability and growth Monitors achievement of strategic targets and objectives and provides input into corrective actions where required Negotiates and contracts on effective and agreed SLAs Supply Chain Management Develops and oversees the overall Supply Chain Management function to support the most cost efficient and value adding sourcing of all the commodities utilised and consumed creates and oversees consistent governance and operating models across the business for the sourcing of goods and services Utilises sound sourcing principles and practices to ensure that the supplier and enterprise development initiatives support Indalo Hotels & Leisure's transformation and impact objectives Collaborates with stakeholders to ensure the best value for money deals are negotiated for Indalo Hotels & Leisure's sourcing initiatives Reporting Reviews, approves and submits comprehensive operational reports according to agreed timelines Compiles reports for the CEO, Board and Board Sub-Committees Submits and presents reports to EXCO and the Board Develops, manages and reviews operations metrics and presents to Exco and the Board Stakeholder Management Manages and maintains effective stakeholder and business relationships through appropriate relationship-building, networking and reporting activities to promote retention and growth Manages relationships and communication channels with new and potential clients, existing clients and internal stakeholders Represents Indalo Hotels & Leisure at relevant stakeholder forums, workshops, and meetings Monitors client satisfaction feedback and levels and makes recommendations for enhancements Resolves queries to ensure speedy resolutions and enhance overall client satisfaction International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) Audit Compliance Achieves an average of 80% compliance on both internal and external International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) audits conducted Financial Management Manages and reconciles the budget and expenditure within the portfolio including monthly financial reports Analyses trends, operating requirements and forward plans to establish / determine funding / expenditure for the period and / or assessing the accuracy of project estimations / costing referring to specifications and / or technical requirements Monitors and implements corrective measures to rectify deviations contrary to financial regulations, audit requirements and divisional procedures Prepares and manages the operational and capital budgets for the division's budget ensuring adherence to deadlines Monitors and oversees the expenditure of the division in terms of the business plan and the approved budget Ensures compliance with all relevant legislation Approves budgetary expenditures within authorisation limits or delegations of authority Reviews and reports on financial performance of the division Aligns the budget with strategic planning priorities People Management Directs and controls outcomes associated with the utilisation, productivity and performance of employees within the Operations Division Assist the Multi-Unit GM and Hotel GM's where necessary. Reviews and aligns the divisional structure to the strategic objectives of the organisation Establishes work standards, provides feedback and coaching and conducts employee performance reviews and appraisals and related activities to comply with Indalo Hotels & Leisure Performance management system Identifies professional / technical skills gaps and completes developmental plans for subordinate employees with clearly defined career paths and job enrichment opportunities Monitors the adequacy of current training interventions supporting employee development and reports on workplace impact post training and / or the need for changes to the plans Promotes employment equity within the Division Implements Human Resources policies and procedures to control / regulate workplace conflict and / or institute corrective measures and consultation processes to address deviations from standards Prioritises, schedules and assigns work and delegates authority and responsibility to others as needed Implements retention and reward management Creates an engaged and motivated workforce by ensuring the implementation of training initiatives and the establishment of an environment that fosters wellbeing, learning and development as well as team work Works with HR and training in dealing with grievances and disciplinary issues and ensures the effective implementation and management thereof prepares and participates in recruitment, talent management and succession planning activities to support organisational growth Minimum qualifications required Postgraduate qualification (NQF level 8) in Business / Commerce (MBA advantageous) Tertiary qualification of a B-Tech or National Diploma in Hospitality Management Studies Driver's licence Minimum Experience 10 - 12 years' experience in the Hotels & Leisure Industry 10 years' experience at a Senior Manager level in the Hospitality Sector Minimum of 10 years of SA Hospitality Management experience with at least 5 years of which are as a multi-unit GM role, preferably with a large group or International Branded establishment with management of at least 250 keys plus assets. Experience with Hotel and Multiple-Property Management, as well as Golf-clubs Essential.
