A Health and Safety Officer is appointed to perform the main health and safety duties in the workplace. The responsible person ensures that there is a safe working environment for all employees. Client and or stakeholder management Ensuring that the workplace has an adequate supply of fresh air Increasing health and safety awareness at all levels within the company. Ensuring that all seating provides adequate support for the employee Acting as an infection control officer. Investigating all injuries and accidents. Writing reports on all injuries and accidents. Determining the location of fire extinguishers. Ensuring that all equipment, for health and safety, are in working order Determining the location of emergency exits. Ensuring emergency exits are clear from obstacles. Ensuring that all staff are aware of the location of first aid kits. Ensuring that the first aid kits are fully stocked Rendering first aid to employees and visitors in cases of injury or illness. Carrying out safety inspections. Arranging for the removal of hazardous waste and materials. Patrolling parking facilities. Advise and instruct on various safety-related topics (noise levels, use of machinery) Process and Risk Ensuring compliance with relevant laws Carrying out safety risk assessments, enforce preventative measures Ensure weekly documentations and information is handed in to the OHS Manager to be added into the master safety file. Continuously updating site specific file and ensuring all information in duplicated and sent through to the OHS Manager. Conducting fire drills. Maintaining accurate administrative records of any emergency drills carried out. Participating in fire prevention programs. Participating in accident prevention programs. Maintaining statistical records of all reported incidents and accidents. Identifying potential safety or fire hazards. Identifying OHS related training needs in the workplace Carrying out post incident analysis. Establishing workplace safety and health committees Mentor and manage direct reports: SHE Reps, Fire Marshalls and First aiders Nurture talent within the direct reports community as well as extended reports by: Cultivating a high-performance culture by caring, driving knowledge growth (education) and coaching Stimulates and motivates Mentor and manage direct reports: SHE Reps, Fire Marshalls and First aiders Nurture talent within the direct reports community as well as extended reports by: Cultivating a high-performance culture by caring, driving knowledge growth (education) and coaching Stimulates and motivates Develops and executes talent management & succession plans Retains talent Ensures direct reports community as well as extended reports follow relevant CCI Group policies, compliance policies, legislation, regulation and client obligations Ensures that Overtime is calculated for all qualifying employees. Develop and maintain effective work relationships with employees within the business Develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders Ensures that all relevant CCI Group policies and CCI Behaviours are upheld by all employees Can interact effectively with a diverse population Financial Management Work closely with the senior safety officer & Regional OHS Manager to identify, promote and gain support for improvement opportunities that will increase revenue and or reduce operating costs. Supervise all SHE Reps and Ensure all daily duties are completed. Management of tactical (3months – 6months) priorities within the team and actively contribute to and manages strategic enterprise wide initiatives (>6months) The Health and Safety Officer is responsible for overseeing the Health and safety across all buildings in South Africa. Level of Authority Supervise all SHE Reps and Ensure all daily duties are completed. Skills and Competencies Good problem-solving skills Demonstrate Good communication and people skills, The ability to coordinate, plan, time management working against tight deadlines The ability to work under pressure and against tight deadlines with demanding clients The ability to work without supervision A service excellence attitude is a pre-requisite Accurate record keeping and excellent admin / filing skills a great advantage Knowledge of good safety practices. Enforce emergency procedures. Knowledge of decontamination procedures. Knowledge of the OHS Act Knowledge of Health & Safety programs Knowledge of Safety legislation Knowledge of Safety precautions Knowledge of Hazardous Materials Safety Knowledge of Hazardous Waste Management Knowledge of first aid methods and techniques Able to work collaboratively in a team setting Experience, Knowledge and Qualifications Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent A Formal Qualification in Health and Safety will be advantageous At least 5 years practical experience in a Facilities Management environment managing a team of at least 7 staff members Proven knowledge and experience in full function management with BMS Systems, Generators, HVAC systems, Fire Systems Demonstrate Teamwork and Accountability Demonstrate Computer literate – MS Office and CMMS software Demonstrate Property, Facilities & Technical ability Demonstrate supervisor experience, managing a minimum team of 7 staff members In possession of a legal driver's license, with no endorsements an advantage Must have 3 years SHEQ working experience (Not as a SHE Rep) Must have SAMTRAC Must have HIRA Must have experience with safety file development and auditing Must have knowledge of SA Building regulations Must have knowledge of ISO 14001 & ISO 45001 Must be able to work flexible shifts Must have own transport Valid drivers license Must be available to travel when required Market Related Apply Now
