Our client based in Pinetown is looking for a Production Manager to join their team. We are looking for someone with a strong packaging background. Liaise with Operations Manager regarding current projections vs. actual sales. Develop production schedules and plans to meet customer demands and inventory targets. Analyse historical data, market trends, and customer demand forecasts and forecast production requirements and plan accordingly to improve stock availability. Review / adjust monthly planning schedule and weekly production plans based on various matters arising. Coordinate with procurement and inventory management teams to ensure availability of raw materials and components needed for production. Manage lead times for production processes and raw material procurement to ensure on-time delivery of finished products to customers. Actively collaborate with the Quality Department in order to interpret results and use them as a leverage for improvement. Identifying areas for process improvement and implement strategies to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and improve productivity. Conduct pre-shift meetings to communicate production goals, priorities, and any specific instructions or changes for the upcoming shift. Coordinate with the materials management team to ensure that all necessary raw materials, components, and packaging supplies are available and staged for use. Ensure all production inputs and resources are in place (staff, machines, materials, dies, weighing scales) Monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) related to production output, quality, and efficiency, and providing regular reports to management on production performance. Monitor production progress and performance metrics throughout the shift, addressing any issues or deviations from the plan as they arise Monitor production flow, such as plant performance, compliance with safety and health standards, quality, and best practice requirements. Identify deviations from required standards and their causes, initiate corrective action. Monitor material batches, discover/ address non-conformances. Identify and mitigate potential hazards Oversee process changes according to varying operating conditions – oversee manual interventions – recommend and log changes. Maintain and keep machines & assets in good working condition Produce reports on variable elements related to production e.g. daily/weekly production, maintenance, safety etc. Input production data into system including creating and doing bill of materials Maintain accurate records of production activities, quality inspections, and any corrective actions taken, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal standards. Select and appoint team members Enable delivery capacity of team members through training, communication and setting clear performance targets / standards Implement a performance-enabling environment by creating a dynamic working environment, providing feedback on actual delivery, support, recognition, and reward, fostering teamwork, fairness, and other best-practice leadership processes. Discover sources of workplace conflict and resolve proactively Tertiary qualification in Production Management or any similar qualification ( advantageous) Experience in a similar position with at least 3 years' experience managing a team Knowledge of Packaging Production Processes
