We are currently recuiting for fixed-term contract Resident Engineer - Roads to join our dynamic team, based in Volksrust (Mpumalanga). Job description summary: A successful candidate will be responsible for the overall planning, direction, organization, and cost control of a construction project to the highest safety and quality levels within time and cost constraints including mentoring an assistant resident engineer on the project. The Resident Engineer will be required to prepare project readiness documents for construction and site set-up organization, planning, and ensuring all Dept of Labour and health & safety requirements are in place. Responsible for all safety planning associated with the project construction execution methods selection, with the support of the Project Manager and Site Health and Safety Officer / Consultant Responsible through the design engineer to set up and oversee the constructability process Coordinate with the client, project manager, contractor, and other project services in identifying required reporting procedures and formats for client and Zimile management needs Establish project quality procedures and monitor quality Carry out work inspections & check for compliance with specifications, drawings, and quality control plans Review and approve construction estimates, budgets, forecasts, and schedules Review construction/erection drawings and specifications, develop strategies for erection interfaces, determine appropriate construction methods, and pre-empt problem areas Ensure the necessary permits and licenses (notice of the project, insurance certificates, workers' compensation, environmental permits, etc.) are identified and obtained prior to the start of construction activities on site Apply an in-depth understanding and application of FIDIC conditions of contract for purposes of contract administration and management Be conversant with COTO Standard specifications and applications Liaises with the Project Manager and the project core team of design engineers, procurement, planning and scheduling and other personnel and other personnel as required in setting priorities to ensure timely construction performance Liaises with the Client team, Engineers and Contractors to deliver the project in a safe manner, on time, and within budget Liaison between Contractors and Engineers to resolve field engineering queries Review contractors' s site organization and staffing requirements required to execute construction activities within the project schedule and acceptable costs Direct, monitor and motivate subordinate construction specialists in performance and direct activities as necessary to ensure project requirements are achieved Ensure adherence to all by-laws, local regulations, and statutory requirements in site activities planning Liaise with client representatives as required to ensure shutdowns, relocations, tie-ins, etc. are planned safely and in a timely manner with minimum disruption Recommend requirements for construction resources and strategies to meet the schedule in each area Work with Project Manager to ensure contractors adhere to the requirements of their contracts Assist with the management of Contractor claims Assist with chairing monthly progress meetings in the absence of the Project Manager Ensuring compliance with ISO9001/2015 QMS systems regarding information management and other specific responsibilities Minimum years of relevant experience: 5 to 10 years Minimum qualification: BSc. Eng. (Civil) / B.Eng. Civil or B.Tech Civil or National Diploma Civil Registration: Pr. Eng. or Pr. Technologist. Minimum job requirements: Minimum of 4 years working as a resident engineer on road projects e.g. SANRAL, Provincial or other Road Agency projects: Site supervision Contract management Successful delivery of projects Construction project implementation Market Related
