For more than 30 years, our client has offered environmental services across the SADC region, further north into the African continent (e.g. Uganda, Togo and Cameroon) and around the world. They are based on the North Coast of Kwazulu Natal, and are looking for a Senior Environmental Consultant – Social Scientist, to join the team. Their Head Office is 1 hour north of Durban, remote work is a possibility depending on experience. Job Description: The available position requires the following: Social and Socio-economic Impact Assessments. Resettlement Action Plans and Resettlement Implementation. Socio-economic research (desktop and field), baseline assessments and analyses. Community engagement and liaison activities. Field work, including stakeholder engagement in South Africa and SADC countries. Interfacing social/socio-economic analyses/findings with EIA processes. Government interaction/liaison (all spheres). Project management, including client engagement and day to day management of field staff. Develop and maintain databases. Assist in compiling proposals and tender documentation. Review of reports, proposals and tender documents. NOT LESS THAN A MASTERS degree in a field related to the Social Sciences, Development Studies or Psychology. (lesser qualifications will not be considered) Minimum of five years' experience in a similar role. Demonstrable experience in Social Impact Assessments, Resettlement Planning or related fields. Sound understanding of the environmental assessment process and the EIA/social interface. Sound grasp of English and the ability to communicate (oral and written). SADC experience would be an advantage. Be willing to travel, including international travel. Be self-motivated and able to work unsupervised. Basic GIS skills would be an advantage.
