An exciting opportunity has presented itself to appoint a suitably qualified candidate into the position of Senior IT Infrastructure Specialist Level: 2. This position is based at Electronic Laboratory Services Pty Ltd in Richmond, Auckland Park (JHB Central). POSITION SUMMARY: The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining backup and disaster recovery solutions for our organization's critical data. This role requires a deep understanding of backup technologies, storage systems, and data protection strategies. Collaborations with various teams to ensure data integrity, availability, and compliance with company policies and industry standards. Provide intermediary complex network, server and new system interface support, design and implementation and continual upkeep of the core and or complimentary systems used by the practice within a wide range of technologies as per departmental and organisational requirements. Key Responsibilities: Backup Strategy Development: Develop and implement backup strategies based on business requirements, ensuring data protection and recovery objectives are met. Backup Infrastructure Management: Manage and maintain backup infrastructure, including backup servers, storage devices, and backup software. Backup Monitoring and Troubleshooting:Monitor backup jobs, perform regular tests, and troubleshoot backup failures to ensure data consistency and reliability. Disaster Recovery Planning: Collaborate with stakeholders to create and update disaster recovery plans and procedures, including backup restoration processes. Data Replication and Archiving: Implement data replication and archiving solutions to ensure data availability and long-term retention. Security and Compliance: Ensure backup systems comply with security policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards. Implement encryption and access controls where necessary. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain documentation for backup processes, configurations, and recovery procedures. Generate regular reports on backup performance, status, and compliance. Capacity Planning: Monitor backup storage capacity and plan for scalability to accommodate growing data volumes. Training and Support: Provide training and support to IT staff and end-users on backup best practices, recovery procedures, and data protection strategies. Vendor Management: Coordinate with backup solution vendors for support, upgrades, and procurement of new technologies. Implement and maintain intermediary complex network, server and system interfaces as and when required to ensure system integrity and stability. Manage mini-projects as part of the overall IT team and report on work in progress to the line Manager. Determine Organisational requirements by attending briefing sessions with Customers and Managers ensuring implementation of IT systems. Investigate and evaluate various solutions in line with organisational requirements to ensure system effectiveness and optimum use of resources. Optimising systems and or interfaces through recommendations to ensure IT equipment is in line with specific business needs. Implement, install and commission selected systems to ensure optimal connectivity availability and utilization of IT systems. Provide on-going support to customers on systems to ensure customer satisfaction. Provides hands on system training and mentoring as and when required. Monitoring performance, troubleshooting and optimizing business critical I.T. Systems. Working on and taking responsibility for new and ongoing I.T projects as well as documentation thereof. Adhere to the business and change control processes as well as relevant standard operating procedures. Qualification: Degree/Diploma in computer science, information technology, or related field. Experience: 3-5 Yrs Working Experience in: Backup Administration or IT Operations Special Requirements/Skills: In-depth knowledge of backup and recovery technologies, such as tape libraries, disk-based backups, snapshot technologies, and cloud-based backup solutions. Experience with backup software such as Veritas NetBackup, Commvault, Veeam, or similar tools. Strong understanding of storage systems, including SAN, NAS, and RAID configurations. Familiarity with disaster recovery planning, data replication, and high availability concepts. Knowledge of data encryption, access controls, and security best practices. Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to resolve backup-related issues promptly. Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
