Boilermakers align sections using plumb bobs, levels, wedges, and turnbuckles. They make sure the section edges fit properly and bolt or weld them together. They attach other necessary components, such as water tubes, valves, and gauges. Once equipment has been assembled, boilermakers test it for leaks and weak spots. In most areas, there are state and local laws setting standards that boilers must meet. Boilermakers regularly inspect and maintain equipment and update components to increase efficiency. They may have to take a piece of equipment apart to fix it. Sometimes they strengthen joints or use pieces of metal to patch weak spots. At other times they must replace a whole section of equipment. Work involves use of hand and power tools, plumb bobs, levels, wedges, or turnbuckles. FITTER BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF JOB PURPOSE: Physically getting involve in all repairs, maintenance, and breakdowns. Working in a mining environment, where they are responsible for fitting fabricating and assembling the structural components. They also repair and service machinery and components as required. Must have good manual dexterity, attention to detail and must have excellent hand-eye coordination. Boilermaker Qualifications: Boilermaker Trade test Certificate – red seal. Fitter Qualifications: Fitter Trade test Certificate – red seal. Experience: 5 - 10 Year's qualified experience. Knowledge: Mechanical - Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. Knowledge of materials - methods, and the tools involved in the use of repairing equipment. Skills: Repairing - Repairing machines or systems using the needed tools. Installation - Installing equipment, and machines to meet specifications. Quality Control Analysis - Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance. Equipment Maintenance - Performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed. Troubleshooting - Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it. Equipment Selection - Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job. Operation and Control - Controlling operations of equipment or systems. Reading Comprehension - Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents. Operation Monitoring - Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine / equipment is working properly.
