Bookkeeper - Durban

Duties and Responsibilities:
Financial Record Maintenance:
  • Oversee the daily operations of the bookkeeping team.
  • Ensure accurate recording of financial transactions in the general ledger.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records for all accounts.
Reconciliation:
  • Perform and review monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Reconcile subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, and posting transactions.
  • Ensure all intercompany accounts are reconciled on a monthly basis.
Financial Reporting:
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Generate financial reports and summaries for management.
  • Ensure timely completion of end-of-month and end-of-year close processes.
Compliance and Auditing:
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and company policies.
  • Prepare documentation and assist with internal and external audits.
  • Ensure compliance with tax regulations and support tax filing processes.
Team Management:
  • Supervise, train, and mentor junior bookkeeping staff.
  • Delegate tasks and projects to the bookkeeping team.
  • Conduct performance reviews and provide constructive feedback.
Systems and Processes:
  • Maintain and improve accounting processes and systems.
  • Implement new accounting software or system upgrades as necessary.
  • Ensure the security and integrity of financial data.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual budget.
  • Monitor budget variances and report significant issues to management.
  • Support the Finance Manager in financial forecasting and planning.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years in bookkeeping or accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in Pastel accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
