2 years Engineering Draughting experience + 3 years design experience in Mining or Heavy industry.

College/University Education: Relevant Diploma in Engineering (S4/N6) - essential

Design and draughting

Assess design requests and assist in planning the work to be undertaken, taking into consideration time and resources required.
Measure and verify existing structures and equipment to ensure that the correct fundamental dimensions are obtained prior to commencing with new / revised drawings.
Perform preliminary design calculations according to design codes and international standards and prepare engineering designs for capital projects and maintenance work according to scopes of work and design office standards.
Ensure that detailed drawings are compiled and checked internally for quality standards and dimensional correctness.
Ensure that relevant material specifications and codes of practices are tied up on the drawing in order to maintain and improve safety, health and environmental standards and practices.
Make sure that existing drawings are continuously revised and updated to ensure accuracy and updated as-built status.
Assist in compiling engineering designs and ensure that designs meet the general safety requirements of the plant whilst complying with national and international standards or as directed by the Plant Engineer in charge and Project Manager.
Perform fair and reasonable tasks related to the job and working environment, at the discretion of the supervisor.

Coordinating design processes

Supervise the production of engineering drawings assigned to draughtsman and provide technical expertise where required.
Ensure that external consultants are sourced if internal capacity is reached and coordinate the design process in that regard (ensure that initial client consultation meeting is set up and review final products to ensure that internal standards are met).
Oversee the work of contractors and ensure work is in compliance with required standards.

Communication and liaison

Receive request from Plant and Project Departments to alter, upgrade or improve equipment or structures.
Liaise with the client to discuss the scope of the work, specific needs and requests prior to commencing a design project.
Ensure that proposals and detailed designs are submitted to Clients as per standard practices.
Liaise with Design Engineers to ensure that the required statutory approval is obtained.
Liaise with document controller regarding any technical issues with registrations.
