Our client, a major player in the South African energy game, boasts a portfolio of over 2.5GW of wind, solar, and BESS projects. Their high-calibre team of professionals needs an HV Substation Technician with over 5 years of experience in the renewable energy industry, 3 of which include experience with electrical substations or overhead lines. Your embedded knowledge of MV and HV electrical equipmen t and experience maintaining electrical substations (circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, relays, overhead lines, underground MV cables, and associated equipment) make you perfect for this role. RESPONSIBILITIES Carry out both routine and preventive maintenance activities on electrical substations Perform inspections, lubrication, and calibration of substation components to ensure they function optimally and meet manufacturer specifications Oversee assigned work orders using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) Proactively identify and address potential equipment failures or performance issues to avoid power supply interruptions Conduct diagnostic tests to evaluate the condition and integrity of low, medium, and high-voltage equipment. Interpret test results and data to detect potential faults, abnormalities, or deterioration in substation components Promptly and effectively repair or replace faulty components, wiring, insulation, and other substation infrastructure Collaborate with engineering teams and subcontractors to address technical challenges and ensure the swift resolution of electrical balance of plant (BOP) issues Ensure adherence to industry standards, codes, and regulations related to substation maintenance and operations, such as ORHVS, NRS 097, NRS 047, and NRS 048 Execute switching of low, medium, and high-voltage equipment as required, following intercompany procedures and the ORHVS standard Perform standby duties and serve as the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) with the system operator and utility Accept the GMR2(7) appointment along with the associated responsibilities SKILLS Analytical approach to problem solving Highly results-driven Strong technical electrical competency Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Advanced Microsoft Suite proficiency EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS National diploma in electrical engineering Electrical Trade Test ORHVS certification EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS 5-8 years of experience in the renewable energy industry (primary and secondary plant) 3 years of experience working with electrical substations or overhead lines ZAR 700k - ZAR 900k CTC per annum
