Investment Manager Research Analyst - Gauteng About the role: Seeking an experienced and confident individual to join and contribute to a small but growing team. The individual needs to be able to hit the ground running, and be self-motivated and analytical. Responsibilities: · Research investment managers across various asset classes, including alternative asset classes. This will include desktop research, quantitative analysis, qualitative factors and manager due diligences. · Use of internal tools and externally used tools, such as eVestment · Identify list of top asset manager performers within different asset classes · Setting up due diligence meetings with asset managers · Send out relevant due diligence questionnaire to asset managers · Receive back due diligence questionnaire and analyse the responses and ask relevant clarifying questions where appropriate · Attend and actively participate in the meetings with the asset manager. This will typically include Portfolio Managers and/or Analysts. Members of the internal team will also attend. Produce manager meeting notes based on these meetings. · Ensure understanding of Asset Manager Investment philosophy · Clearly understand the investment process (e.g. portfolio construction) of Asset Manager – must be in line with investment philosophy · Ask clarifying questions around decision making related to stocks in portfolio · Investigate any risk in portfolio and mitigation of the risk in portfolio · Compare meeting notes with rest of team that attended meeting · Draft research notes that can be distributed internally · Participate in the manager research committee, including rating of investment managers · Draft manager review/selection reports for clients Candidate requirements: Good understanding of asset managers and their investment processes and philosophies – both local asset managers and some offshore managers as well Able to structure and draft manager research reports At least 8 years experience in a role that involved manager research Numerate Good written skills Good communication skills Undergraduate degree (Finance, Actuarial, Management, Investment, Business, Risk etc) Progress towards or completion of investment qualifications, such as CFA, would be ideal High competence with Excel, Word, and Powerpoint Able to articulate their thinking and ideas in a clear manner, both verbally and written Monthly Salary: Market related
