Introduction Wits Health Consortium (Pty) Limited ("WHC") is a wholly-owned Company of the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (South Africa) under its Faculty of Health Sciences. WHC provides Faculty with a legal framework within which to operate the research and other activities necessary to support its academic objectives. In addition, WHC offers a range of products and services to Academics Description Main purpose of the job: To perform night shift work for transplant testing, daytime and call-out related transplant duties as and when required To perform laboratory diagnostic, surveillance and research activities, including analysis and interpretation of data, to conduct research relevant to the discipline Key Performance Areas: Perform Laboratory Tests : Perform routine diagnostic and surveillance tests Interpret test results together with epidemiological data Interpret test results associated with outbreak investigations Perform tests related to research projects Trouble shooting wherever necessary e.g. identifying and solving technical problems Project management Laboratory Administration : Ensure maintenance is carried out where required Monitor and control stock levels Monitor and control work flows and turnaround times Respond to and report quality control issues to Laboratory Manager Demonstrate cost consciousness and assists in meeting budgetary targets Filing of records of worksheets Quality Control : Apply and interpret results of internal and external quality assessment tests Ensure all tests are validated before implementation Report quality related problems and attempt to solve them and report to Laboratory Manager Required Minimum Education and Training: BSC (Hons) Degree Professional Body Registration: HPCSA registered with as a Medical Scientist in the relevant field (Immunology/Molecular Biology) Desirable Additional Education, Work Experience and Personal Abilities Must be a team player Must perform equally well with routine diagnostic/surveillance activities and research Must be a well organized individual Must be able to pay attention to detail Good time management skills and must always meet deadlines Occasionally will be required to be on-call and perform work after hours and on weekends/public holidays Must be computer literate Required Minimum Work Experience Minimum of 24 months (Post University Qualification) experience in medical scientist/ microbiology laboratory/PCR/Data capture and management of data TO APPLY: Only if you do meet the minimum job requirements and experience as mentioned above, you may submit a detailed updated CV.
