Desired Experience & Qualifications

The applicant MUST HAVE the following experience & qualifications

  • At least 5 years relevant experience writing or editing technical manuals
  • A tertiary qualification in technical writing will be an advantage
  • MUST BE PROFICIENT in using the Adobe Suite of Software, incl. but not limited to
    • Adobe In-Design
    • Adobe Photoshop
    • Adobe Illustrator
    • Adobe Premier Pro
    • Adobe Acrobat Pro
  • MUST BE Proficient with Microsoft Excel & Microsoft Word
  • Proficiency with the complete Microsoft Office Suite preferred
  • MUST HAVE a SOLID ABILITY to photograph detailed good quality images of
    • Equipment for technical detail & reference
    • Machines for technical detail & reference
  • Have the ability to capture marketing related videos & compile videos based on the clients templates, using Adobe Premier Pro
  • Must have a technical (engineering type) background to understand technical machine design concepts & interpret technical specifications
  • Assist with technical documentation required for equipment sign-off & interpreting client specifications during design & build phases
  • Good time management skills
  • High level of motivation
  • Attention to detail
  • Work well under pressure & set timelines when needed
  • Excellent verbal, written & digital communication skills
  • Possess a valid unendorsed South African drivers license
  • Have own reliable transport
  • Reside within the Greater Cape Town Metropole area
  • Willing to travel within South Africa for work related tasks if needed

Duties & Responsibilities

The following constitutes the duties & responsibilities of the role:

  • Creating detailed end-user documentation using Adobe In-Design on the range of equipment that my client manufactures
  • Work closely with the design teams, sales teams & manufacturing teams to capture all relevant detail required for user manuals
  • Edit existing documentation to add additional details on machine models if needed
  • Maintain the manuals library & structure, including machine parameter lists (Microsoft Excel)
  • Assist in creating training manuals based on machine manuals
  • Create artwork for machine buttons & controls, needed for the manuals when needed using Adobe Illustrator
  • Take technical photographs after acceptance tests for visual records of the equipment (technical in nature)
  • Shoot & compile video material for marketing purposes (using Adobe Premier Pro for compiling videos)
  • Assist in the design of functional safety artwork, branding and / or diagrams needed for the equipment
  • Adhere to HSE requirements as dictated by law & company policies
  • Contribute to building & maintaining of a continuous improvement environment & ongoing functional activities
  • Clear & effective communication skills for articulating manual design needs & explaining technical details
  • Flexibility to adapt to new challenges, changes in project scope & unexpected obstacles
  • Ability to meticulously ensure that every aspect of the end-user documentation meets required standards & specifications, including any client user specifications that may be relevant
  • Maintaining & adding to a library of agency equipment documentation
  • Occasionally required to work overtime on short notice.
