Safety Manager Wynberg – Gauteng The Safety Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing health and safety plans, enforcing policies, assessing risk, and ensuring compliance with legal guidelines. You will conduct training, investigate incidents, and provide recommendations for improvement, aiming to create a safe and compliant workplace environment. Key Responsibilities: Develop and Implement Safety Policies: Formulate safety policies in accordance with South African laws and industry standards. Update policies regularly to ensure compliance with new regulations. Conduct Risk Assessments: Perform comprehensive risk assessments on construction sites. Identify potential hazards and implement mitigation strategies. Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all operations comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and Construction Regulations. Maintain up-to-date records of compliance documentation. Training and Education: Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees and contractors. Ensure all personnel are aware of safety procedures and regulations. Accident Investigation: Lead investigations into workplace accidents and incidents. Prepare reports and recommend measures to prevent recurrences. Safety Audits and Inspections: Conduct regular safety audits and inspections of construction sites. Identify non-compliance issues and ensure corrective actions are taken promptly. Emergency Preparedness: Develop and implement emergency response plans. Conduct drills and training sessions to ensure readiness in case of emergencies. Safety Performance Monitoring: Monitor and analyze safety performance metrics. Report on safety performance to management and recommend improvements. Liaison with Authorities: Communicate with regulatory bodies and ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations. Keep abreast of new developments in health and safety legislation. Incumbent must have knowledge of the following: Construction Regulations in South Africa: A comprehensive knowledge of South African Construction Regulations is fundamental for the Safety Manager role. However, the candidates appeared unfamiliar with key regulatory frameworks and standards specific to our region. They were unable to discuss the requirements and applications of these regulations in depth, which is essential for ensuring compliance and safety on our projects. Core Responsibilities of a Safety Manager in South African Health and Safety Compliance: A Safety Manager must have a thorough grasp of their role and responsibilities in the context of South African Health and Safety laws. Unfortunately, the candidates lacked a clear understanding of these duties.
