Safety Officer - Kathu

Job Summary
  • Calendar Management and Reporting: Manage calendar schedules and report back to Finance for invoicing monthly.
  • Client Retention: Ensure continuous client engagement and satisfaction.
  • Health and Safety Management System: Implement and maintain health and safety management systems at various client sites and premises.
  • Communication with Department of Labour: Liaise with the local Department of Labour during inspections.
  • Risk Assessments and Documentation: Conduct and coordinate risk assessments, method statements, safe work procedures (SWPs), and other relevant documentation required by clients.
  • Compliance Audits: Ensure compliance with plan-specific requirements for audits and surveillance.
  • Work Safety Enforcement: Stop any work carried out in an unsafe manner.
  • Training Requirements and Record Keeping: Determine health and safety training requirements and maintain records.
  • Reporting: Complete and submit detailed reports.
  • Site Statistics Maintenance: Maintain accurate site statistics on manpower, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • Site Supervision Support: Guide and support site supervision in their daily duties, ensuring full compliance with task hazards and work assessments.
  • Meeting Participation: Participate in weekly meetings, addressing health and safety statistics and other related matters.
  • Lead by Example: Exemplify the standard for on-site behaviour, including wearing the correct personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Training and Toolbox Talks: Conduct induction training and toolbox talks.
  • Contractor H&S Plan Verification: Verify the suitability of contractors health and safety plans and monitor compliance.
  • H&S Performance Analysis: Analyse and report on health and safety performance, providing appropriate action recommendations.
  • Incident Investigation: Conduct investigations into incidents and near misses.
  • Plant Conformance Checks: Ensure construction plant conforms to statutory requirements and regulations.
  • Housekeeping Promotion: Promote good housekeeping practices.
  • Awareness Campaigns: Organize and implement health and safety awareness campaigns.
  • H&S Walkabouts: Conduct health and safety walkabouts and direct corrective actions.
  • Waste Management: Implement a waste management plan.
  • Client Expectations Compliance: Meet client expectations and requirements.
  • Workshops and Training: Conduct workshops and training sessions (once certified).
Minimum Requirements
  • 2-5 years of experience as a South African Health and Safety (HSE) professional.
  • Diploma or relevant formal qualification in health and safety.
  • Advantage of Passport360 experience, onboarding and Mine OHS Safety.
  • Incident Management (RCAT / ICAT).
  • Legal Liability knowledge.
  • Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA).
  • SACPCMP Registered or in the process of registration.
  • SAIOSH Registered or in the process of registration.
  • Fall Protection Planner certification.
  • Relevant short courses (advantageous)
