Our Actuarial Consulting client is seeking a Senior Actuarial Executive or Associate Director in General Insurance to join their team in Sandton, Johannesburg/Remote.
Purpose: The General Insurance consulting team is expanding and has a role for a Senior Actuarial Executive or Associate Director.
The team assists clients in 22 countries across Africa on a range of projects varying between statutory/HAF appointments to capital optimisation and reinsurance analysis as well as complex pricing models. The candidates will be working in the General Insurance team, providing actuarial and technical assistance to clients. The same division is responsible for Enterprise Risk and Capital Management, and Data Analytics.

Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics, etc.
- Strong proficiency in statistical modelling techniques and programming languages such as R.
- At least 8 years’ experience in General Insurance, either in pricing or reserving and capital modelling.
- Qualified Actuary.
- Advantageous if you have the short-term insurance practising certificate or can apply for one soon.
- Experience with SAM, ORSA’s, valuations and solvency calculations will be beneficial.
- Strong work ethic and highly motivated.
- Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written in English), with proven ability to convey complex messages clearly and with conviction.
- Ability to meet deadlines and provide regular feedback on progress.
- Attention to detail.
Responsibilities:
- Taking on HAF roles or supporting HAF in HAF responsibilities.
- Capital modelling including reviews of economic capital models, building challenger models and quantitative validation of SAM standard formula.
- Reinsurance reviews and stochastic optimisation including geospatial modelling.
- Product pricing and design, including reviews, working with GLMs, GAMs, etc.
- Projection models for ORSA and business plans.
- Reviewing technical provisions including IBNR, UPR, AURR and including stochastic risk adjustment calculations in R/Python.
- Producing reports, reviews and analyses results and signing on all areas of short-term actuarial services.
- Assisting clients across Africa with their IFRS 17 reporting requirements.
- Providing technical advice to General Insurance clients across Africa.
- Managing projects.
- Ensuring that reports include insight/value add for clients.
- Supporting the head of the department.
- Performing market studies and research.
- Maintaining and improving client relationships.
