Job Description: A Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in the field of Mine Surveying will prepare, facilitate and research current technologies and techniques to enhance the body of knowledge in Mine Surveying. The position will require undergraduate teaching, postgraduate supervision and research in the field of Mine Surveying. Responsibilities: Provide undergraduate lectures in the field of Mine Surveying, Mine Valuation, Mine Planning and Structural Geology. Prepare new updated, lecturing material relevant to South African mining conditions. Supervise Under- and Post graduate research work in the field of Mine Surveying Facilitate practical mine surveying fieldwork for Mine surveyors and Mining Engineers Prepare current, relevant research work in the field of Mine Surveying and Mine Valuation Interact with peers in professional forums and be seconded to the IMSSA and SAGC professional bodies Education committee activities Develop new course material as well as practical guides for undergraduate and postgraduate modules as well as Short Learning Programmes (SLPs) in technology related to mine surveying. Mine surveying, Land surveying or Engineering surveying qualification Minimum Qualification of a master's degree for a Lecturer and/or Minimum Qualification of PhD for a Senior Lecturer. Minimum 3 years' of Industry experience in mining or a surveying-related field. The ability to become a candidate and register with the South African Geomatics Council Recommendations: In possession of or candidate for the Government Certificate of Competency: Mine Surveying or equivalent industrial experience in Mine surveying. Practical experience in Geographic Information Management and Mine Surveying. Mineral Resource Management and Mine Valuation A minimum of three years of industrial experience Competencies and Behavioural Attributes: Strong commitment to teaching and research in the field of Mine Surveying. Ability to perform research, teaching and administration simultaneously; Be registered or be eligible to register as a Professional Geomatics practitioner in the category Mine Surveying, Engineering Surveying or Land Surveying through the South African Geomatics Council (SAGC). Excellent fundamental surveying principles in both field observations and theoretical preparation The candidate must have a solid understanding of modern surveying techniques, surveying equipment and relevant software, ideally in a mining related environment. A knowledge of Geographic Information Systems will be an advantage. The successful candidate must have a valid driver's licence and current driving experience.
