Reference: PTA001205-JP-1 A market leader in Agrochemical products is seeking an experienced Soil Scientist to support the Technical Team by conducting detailed soil surveys, gathering field data, compiling soil maps, writing reports, and conducting feedback sessions with clients Minimum requirements for the role: Must have a B.Sc. Agric degree in Soil Science A tertiary qualification in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) will be an added advantage Minimum 3 years' fieldwork as a soil surveyor will be required A high level of GIS knowledge, including the use of ESRI suite (ArcGIS), QGIS, and Google Earth applications are essential Knowledge in Ag Leader® SMS software will be an added advantage Must have a strong understanding of fertilizer crop requirements, soil chemistry, soil physics, agronomy, plant physiology, and crop nutrient management Above-average communication skills, specifically in English and Afrikaans with the ability to interface with internal and external stakeholders of all levels and experience are important Must have a valid driver's license and be willing to travel to clients The successful candidate will be responsible for: Performing thorough examinations and assessments of soil properties and conditions in various locations. Collecting soil samples, analyzing soil composition, and identifying soil types and classifications. Creating soil classification maps and writing reports. Developing detailed soil classification maps that visually represent the distribution and types of soils across surveyed areas. Preparing comprehensive reports that document findings, methodologies, and recommendations based on the soil surveys. Managing and maintaining databases containing spatial data related to soil and agricultural practices. Ensuring data accuracy, integrity, and accessibility for use in research, planning, and decision-making. Organizing and updating data sets, integrating new data, and developing data management protocols. Collaborating closely with agronomists and other field team members to support agricultural projects and initiatives. Providing expertise on soil-related matters, assisting in field activities, and contributing to the overall success of agronomic research and development efforts. Translating raw data into agricultural solutions. Analyzing raw soil data and transforming it into actionable insights and solutions that address specific agricultural challenges. Developing recommendations for soil management, crop selection, and fertilization strategies based on data analysis. Interpreting complex data sets and presenting findings in a clear and practical manner. Utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology to create and manage spatial maps that illustrate soil properties, land use, and other relevant agricultural information. Employing GIS tools to analyze spatial data, identify patterns, and generate visual representations that aid in decision-making processes. Using software such as ArcGIS, QGIS, and other mapping applications to produce accurate and informative maps.
