Project Development Manager - Cape Town City Centre

We are seeking an experienced Project Development Manager to lead and coordinate project teams involved in the transacting/closing phase of renewable energy projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing various aspects of project management including finance, contract management, permitting, engineering, procurement, and construction readiness.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead project teams through the transacting/closing phase, coordinating internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage external advisors such as financial advisors, legal advisors, and owner engineers.
  • Optimize financial models and achieve financial close on time and under budget.
  • Interface with key stakeholders including off-takers, partners, lenders, and utility companies.
  • Implement and lead project controls processes: cost controls, contract management, and scheduling.
  • Communicate project progress to stakeholders and develop alternative plans to address deviations.
  • Identify potential project risks and develop preventive measures and response actions.
  • Ensure project execution with no surprises and manage contractual obligations.
  • Prepare and present project reports and establish cost reports and KPIs.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • BEng/BSc degree in Engineering (civil, electrical, mechanical, etc.).
  • 7-10 years of experience in the development and/or execution of EPC projects.
  • At least 5 years of project management experience in medium to large size projects, preferably in the energy sector.
  • Experience working with local utility companies, such as Eskom.
  • Knowledge of power purchase agreements and contract, risk, and procurement management.
  • Expertise in project controls, planning software (MS Projects), and a master’s degree in project management or PMP certification is a plus.
  • Fluency in English, with additional languages being advantageous.

Additional Requirements:

  • Willingness to be site-based during the construction period.
    Previous experience in renewable energy projects, particularly in PV and/or BESS plants, is highly desirable.
